Post's featued image.

We had a wonderful day in Kibera! The kids and the Harambee Arts staff make a great team. The kids rushed to get all the plastic and cardboard settled on the ground as we poured paint and water. They painted portraits, abstracts, landscapes and other images that inspired them. Half way through it started to rain! The rainy season has officially arrived in Kenya which means Kibera can get flooded and muddy. First we played in the rain and then all scrambled into the Masai Mbili art studio. Children from the Seasons of Peace DrawBridge group in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael made beautifully heartfelt paintings for me to carry back to my children in Kenya. The children from Kibera slum Kids4Peace group loved the paintings and they are making art to send to the San Rafael children. Million thanks to Susan Sharpe (DrawBridge facilitator) and her amazing and long term volunteers…Kathleen and Lyla. They are pictured below.

Every Saturday and Sunday we meet at the Maasai Mbili studio and cram about ten children into my car, plus Solo and myself. By the time we arrive at the site, about a 5-minute drive, we have collected another seven or eight children who meet up with us. The few minutes spent in the car are marvelous. My Bob Marley CD is at top volume and all the children sing along, “A comin in, a comin in, a comin, a comin in from the rain!!” Solo 7 […]
