Last night, March 11, 2009 a very remarkable event took place at the RaMoMa Museum of Modern Art in Nairobi. Paintings and sculptures made by the special unit children from City Primary School were part of the opening celebration and they will be on exhibit at the Museum until the 9th of April. The group currently consists of twelve children who deal with the challenges of Downs Syndrome, Autism and other neurological problems and the associated stigmas.
The opening was very well attended and everyone loved the art work of our special children. Margaret and Rossline (pictured above) are two of the extraordinary teachers who are dedicated to the children and who see them as whole and beautiful. The children are developing remarkable painting styles and increased sense of confidence as they paint once a week with the Harambee Arts Staff: Sofia Casas, Kenn Rakwach and Gloria Simoneaux.
Sofia shows Rossline and Margaret the most recent sculptures made by the children.
